- Abstract:The catalytic wet oxidation for the treatment of coal gasification wastewater was investigated in a two-liter autoclave at temperatures from 178 to 236℃, under oxygen partial pressure from 10 to 30 kg/cm2 and with an initial phenol concentration of 7866mg/L and COD 22928mg/L. Se-veral catalysts of metal salts Were evaluated. Copper nitrate and its mixture with ferrous chloride were found to have quite high activities and to give removabilities of 65-90% for COD, nearly 100% for phenol, CN- and S2- and a significant removal of PAH. Two stages of COD reduction, a fast one followed by a slow one, were observed during the treatment and both stages showed a first order pattern with respect to the COD value. Following equation can be used to describe the rate "constant for the first stage of the reaction:The effect of oxygen partial pressure on the reaction was much less than that of the temperature.
