  • Abstract:In order to investigate the influence of urban river on heavy metals pollution in sediments of Minjiang River (Fuzhou Section), six heavy metals (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As and Pb) in major river surface sediment of Minjiang River (Fuzhou Section) and Fuzhou city were systematically analyzed. Evaluation for the geological accumulation index and potential ecological risk index were performed. The results show that the concentrations of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As and Pb were: 5.55~131.35, 0.74~138.82, 2.45~95.84, 24.24~609.72, 2.82~95.90, 13.91~108.45 mg·kg-1, Respectively. The average concentrations of six heavy metals are higher than those in the the background soil in Fujian, but lower than the Class II soil environment quality standards except As. Based on the geological accumulation index of heavy metals, most of samples are considered as between contamination-free and moderate contamination, predominantly associated with the human activities. The potential ecological risk index (Eri) results illustrate the heavy metal content of most of samples (Cr, Ni, Cu, Pb and Zn) have slight potential risks, while As is in moderate risk. For the whole basin, six heavy metals content have slight potential risks. The spatial distribution of heavy metals pollutants should be related to urban development of Fuzhou city. Relatively serious contaminated segments of Minjiang River and urban river are surrounded by old town and industrial zones with strong human activities. This indicates contaminated urban rivers carry a large number of heavy metal pollutants into Minjiang River, aggravate the heavy metals pollution. In order to curb sewage pollution, our results suggest some monitoring stations should be considered to build in this relatively to serious heavy metal pollution area, such as Jin'an river section and Guangminggang-Moxi river section.
