  • Abstract:In order to explore the biofilm formation technology of ozone-biological activated carbon advanced treatment process for Yangtze River water, pilot-scale ozone-biological activated carbon biofilm formation technology in Changzhou section of Yangtze River was studied. The results show that the removal rates of DOC, UV254 and CODMn by activated carbon decrease gradually and ammonia nitrogen is hardly removed in the early stage of biofilm formation because of the saturation of physical adsorption of activated carbon. In the middle and late stage of biofilm-forming, biodegradation plays a dominant role. The removal rates of organic matter and ammonia nitrogen increase and tend to be stable due to the maturation of biofilm on activated carbon. After 90 days, the removal rates of DOC, UV254 and CODMn by activated carbon are over 30.64%, 57.50% and 30.00% respectively, and the removal rate of ammonia nitrogen is about 88.93%. It is considered that the biofilm formation has been successful. Scanning electron microscopy shows that there are abundant microbial micelles on the surface of activated carbon, and high throughput sequencing also verifies the rich and diverse microbial community structure in activated carbon.
