- Abstract:As the key ecological corridor in Beijing, the North Canal River crosses through megacity areas of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The North Canal River is mainly replenished with reclaimed water from municipal wastewater treatment plants, and its water environment treatment and aquatic ecological restoration are not only the core of supporting the construction of ecological civilization in the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, but also the important link of supporting the improvement of water environment & ecological restoration in key areas such as city subcenter of Beijing. Therefore this special issue is a summary of the scientific research outputs of the "North Canal River Project" in recent years. From the perspective of water pollution control and prevention for the "Source-Flow-Sink" whole process, this special issue summarizes the research and practice in three aspects as following: "Source Reduction"- Multi-source pollution prevention and control, "Flow Improvement" - River water quality improvement and ecological restoration, "Sink Landscape" - Reservoir water quality improvement and ecological restoration, so as to provide scientific and technological support for the ecological corridor construction of the North Canal River watershed.
